Ancient Sanskrit literature indicates the use of Jute in Bengal for everyday household items from as early as 800 BC. From the 17th Century till the early 20th Century, Bengal saw an unprecedented growth in its Jute industry fuelled by global demand. However, post World War – II the demand declined sharply due to the advent of Plastic, Polymer and other synthetic materials. But today with the rising awareness of consumers, once again Jute is gaining world-wide attention as a sustainable alternative to Plastic or other synthetic materials.
